About Bloomington
Bloomington is one of St. George's original planned communities, on the south side of the city west of I-15 in a bend of the Virgin River. Development began in 1969, when the community was laid out in a broad circular street pattern around the private Bloomington Country Club. The area was annexed into the city of St. George in 1982. Today it is known for mature trees, established landscaping, and larger lots than many newer subdivisions.
Bloomington is often confused with Bloomington Hills, a separate neighborhood on the east side of I-15 built later around the city-owned St. George Golf Club. Both share the Brigham Road interchange (Exit 4), but they have different golf courses, lot patterns, and HOA histories, so make sure you know which one a listing is in.
Golf and Recreation
Bloomington Country Club, founded in 1969, is a private, member-owned club and the oldest private club in southern Utah. Owning a home in Bloomington or on the course does not automatically include golf privileges; membership is separate. The neighborhood also has the Bureau of Land Management's Bloomington Trailhead for the Bearclaw Poppy trail system, reached via Bloomington Drive and Navajo Drive, and Bloomington Petroglyph Park, a small city park protecting rock art on basalt boulders above the community. The Virgin River runs along the east edge of the neighborhood.
Homes in Bloomington
Many Bloomington homes date from the 1970s and later, ranging from ranch-style single-family homes on generous lots to golf-course homes and some attached housing. Some streets have no HOA while others belong to an association, and an older home may come with dated systems or room to remodel. That mix gives buyers choices, but it means inspections and HOA review deserve real attention.
Schools and Access
Bloomington Elementary is located within the neighborhood. Middle and high school assignments depend on the address, so confirm them with the Washington County School District. Bloomington Drive and the river bridge connect residents to Brigham Road and I-15, and shopping along Dixie Drive and in the Bloomington Hills and Desert Color areas is a short drive.
